Drupal is an open source Content Management System (CMS) and development framework. Drupal is capable of handling large, interactive, data driven websites with relative ease. It's also flexible enough that it makes a great backend for smaller sites, blogs, and intranets/data sharing applications. It's popularity is unmatched; it's estimated that about 1.5% of all websites worldwide are built on Drupal. Some recognizable examples are whitehouse.gov and economist.com.
